I thought I would have to teach my daughter about the world; turns out I have to teach the world about her. They see a girl who doesn't speak,
I see a miracle who doesn't need words.

My Beautiful Girl

Of course I am a bit biased, but we got her school picture and I just love it.  She melts my heart every time I look at it.

New Walker!

After the last post showing how difficult it is to use Alex's walker, I'm THRILLED to say that we had an appointment yesterday to look at a new type of walker - and I LOVE it!!!  It is going to make my life at home with her therapy SO MUCH EASIER!!!!!!!!!!

Here she is trying it out - sorry the video is sideways - I was so excited I forgot to turn the camera around, LOL!! :)

The other really exciting thing my girlfriend pointed out to me is that now Alex will literally be able to walk down the aisle for Jennifer's wedding....so exciting!!

Physical Therapy

A few posts back I had commented on hard it was for me to work with Alex in her walker by myself.  I finally got some video of her at physical therapy to give you an idea of just how many hands you actually need to help her!  In this video she did 'ok' with taking some of her steps.

In this video, not so good - this is where you can really see how challenging it can be for just one person to facilitate...it's a bit long, and sorry about the end...Zach was playing with a ball and hit me by accident! :)

Really? Already?

I had an appointment yesterday afternoon and when I got home Aaron and Zach had to run out the door for karate - but before Zach left, he grabbed something off the kitchen counter and put it under the couch.  I got busy with Alex and forgot to look and see what he was stashing!  While we were eating dinner he got up from the table and brought back his stash....a "love" letter to a little girl in his class!  Seriously, in first grade?!?  I thought I had quite a while before I had to deal with that!!  Sigh, while I have to admit I thought it was really cute - I think I'm in big trouble with this one!

Here's his letter....

...if you're not familiar with first grade handwriting, it says:

"I hope that you like me because I like you.  If you don't like me, that's ok, you can tell me."
Love Zach

Then he even included his phone number (albeit horribly spelled)!
Really???  Seriously????

Happy Anniversary!

Hard to believe, but Saturday Aaron and I celebrated our 11 year wedding anniversary!  We had a wonderful night out and really enjoyed our alone time.  I'm going to recycle the same post I wrote on our 9 nine year wedding anniversary because it's honestly how I still feel and really just sums up our life together.

"Today we celebrated our nine year wedding anniversary. I can definitely say that nine years ago as we danced and didn't have a care in the world that we never could have imagined that our journey together would lead us where it has. In a statistical world, we shouldn't be together - 70% of marriages end in divorce when a spouse has the job that Aaron does, and over 83% of marriages end in divorce when there is a special needs child involved. But we defy the odds and we continue, every day, to make our marriage work. We certainly have our bad days, sometimes it seems like the bad days want to outweigh the good, and there are days when he gets under my skin and I under his...but at the end of the day, we circle back to what is important - our commitment to each other, and our commitment to our family. We have trust, we have faith, we have hope and we have love. And as my mother likes to teach Zachary, "and the greatest is love". I can't imagine being on this journey without Aaron. He is the best father, dedicated to his children, morally committed to what is right in their upbringing, and even when I'm at my worst, committed to making me happy (and I'm not too bad at doing the same for him!) I look forward to continuing our journey for another nine years, and another nine after that, and another nine after that..."
