I thought I would have to teach my daughter about the world; turns out I have to teach the world about her. They see a girl who doesn't speak,
I see a miracle who doesn't need words.

Make A Difference

About a month ago the company that we use for nursing and all of Alex's supplies said they were participating in an event called Make A Difference.   There was a whole day of activities including a 5K and they were also partnering with a local group Art 180 to include Make a Difference, The Art of Kindness.  Patients of Pediatric Connection, or the patient's sibling were invited to make a painting using the same theme, or more specifically, how you make a difference.  I asked Zach if he wanted to participate and he did so they dropped off a canvas and he got to work.

Alex was at the table with him playing with her switch toys, but she was VERY interested in what he was doing.

Zach got an art set a few months back and he decided to do a watercolor painting.

Alex was quite happy to sit there for him and be his 'inspiration' :)

The paintings from each patient, or sibling, is hanging at Art 180 for the month of November.  On Friday night, they had the 'opening' of the exhibit.

Here's Zach in front of his master piece :)

And with his inspiration....

And MeMe and Papa....

For his picture he painted him and Alex in the park....

And he wrote this....(although he quickly pointed out they spelled his name wrong when they typed it up!)

Proud Mommy moment.

All of our friends from Pediatric Connection were there and we were thrilled to see "Ms. Mandy" who we have known since Zach was just born but we have only talked on the phone for the last several years and it was WONDERFUL seeing her again!

For the month of November people can go to Art 180 and make pictures to hang on a dedicated wall to tell how they make a difference - one of the girls there asked Zach if he wanted to make another picture....

I thought it would be a good idea if Alex made one too!

She was engaged for just a few minutes and then MeMe helped her out! :)

Zach wasn't too thrilled with all of the pictures and attention in the beginning, but I'm EXTREMELY proud of him.  Not just for the painting, but for the little man that he is and for caring about and loving his sister the way that he does.  He makes a more of a difference than he will ever know.
